It’s resolution time again. How about a resolution that is (relatively) easy to keep? Take care of your shoes! It’s not very complicated and your shoes will not only look better, they will last longer. You’ll save money and probably even have more friends!
The following steps can help you in this worthwhile endeavor.
Step #1: Shoe trees—Not just any shoe trees though, forget those awful plastic things. You want full cedar. Feet sweat, and your shoes are marinating in that stuff. Shoe trees wick away moisture and bacteria, which helps your shoes maintain their shape and protects them from rotting and cracking. And bonus! Your shoes will smell more like leather and less like stinky feet!
Step #2: Rotate—Shoes need time in shoe trees for them to be effective. Give them that time by having at least a couple pairs of shoes you switch between. Try not to wear the same pair two days in a row so your favorite pair can get some rest and relax back into its proper shape.
Step #3: Conditioning—Leather is skin. As soon as it leaves the cow it starts to dry out. The only way to keep it soft and supple is to put moisturizing agents back in. The best product for your shoes is going to depend on the type of leather (but that’s a post for a different day). The main thing is, you want something that’s going to nourish the leather without changing its original color or patina.
Step #4 Dress Appropriately—Winter weather generally calls for a thicker, preferably rubber sole. Dress shoes and heels sure are pretty but they are not meant to trudge through ice and snow, no matter how much weather protectant you spray on them. Water and salt will not do anything good to your leather, so wear the right footwear out there!
Bonus Step: Schedule POLISHED to come to your office or event! It can be hard to remember to regularly condition and care for your shoes. We get it; life is busy and shoes can take a hard dive to the very bottom of your to-do list (or right off it).
That’s where we come in! Book us, and we will show up and breathe life and shine back into your shoes. Afterwards, you can spend that extra time you saved hanging out with all your new friends!
